Amber Jewellery GdyniaBaltic Gold, as it is often referred to, is specific in that it comes from the resin of coniferous forests that grew in this region over 40 million years ago. The name amber comes from the German Bernstein (stone that burns). It has long been known by various names:

• succinite - geological name, comes from succinum - juice, wood resin;
• The Greeks called this stone the electron (ηλεκτρον), which means luminous and shiny;
• The Romans called amber lyncurium, or lynx urine, because according to legend, the golden stone was made from the petrified urine of this predator;
• succinum is the Latin name for amber used in pharmacy. It originated from Latin. succus - juice;
• The Egyptians called amber sokal;
• Arabs anbar, because the smell of rubbed amber was associated with the smell of amber;
• The Persians called the caruba stone - the golden robber;
• the Slavic name jantar comes from the Lithuanian gintaras or gentaras;
• The Jews called him Hashmal, which literally means the flow of electricity, but metaphysically also God's Power, Angelic Power, Breath.

The largest known amber deposits, estimated at 90% of the total world resources, are located in the Kaliningrad Enclave in Russia from which, with a North East wind and a strong current, washes the pieces of amber onto the beaches of Gdańsk. However, you’ll also find high-quality amber in other traditional amber-trading cities in Poland such as Kalisz, Wrocław and Kraków. Baltic Amber is generally sourced in one of two ways. It can be harvested from the beaches of the Baltic coast. Alternatively, it can be mined from surface mines.

Baltic Amber comes in diverse colours and various degrees of transparency depending on how it has been formed and where it is found. For instance, if it has survived undiscovered on the beach, years of exposure to the sun, wind and the sand condition it further. This weathering of some pieces means that you are able to find many different types of amber, each of high-quality and all with their own uniqueness.

The Oro Project Jewellery Store in Gdynia presents a wide range of amber jewellery, which includes, among others: rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, pendants, brooches, and individual projects.
